Sports, Fitness and Fun hosted an “Open Gym” event, on July 14, with Olympic Gold Medalist, Health & Fitness Advocate, Wife and Mother Shannon Miller.

Shannon is best known for her role at the 1996 Olympic Games, when she led the “Magnificent Seven” to the US Women’s first ever Team Gold and for the first time for any American gymnast, she captured Gold on the balance beam. She is the most decorated gymnast in US history earning 59 international and 49 national competition medals, and is the only female athlete to be inducted into the US Olympic Hall of Fame twice.

This special event will take place on July 14th from 12-1:30pm. It is an excellent opportunity for kids to get active along side an Olympic Champion. Youth, ages 6-12 will have opportunity to practice tumbling, swing on the bars, balance on the beam, jump on the trampolines, hang on the trapeze, flip into the foam pit and more. Shannon will be on hand to play games with the kids and offer instruction on the apparatus. There was be opportunity for photos and autographs for registered participating children at the end of the event.

Over 70 gymnasts in their USA Gymnastics League and US Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs League teams competed in numerous State, Regional and National Championships.

In gymnastics, athletes strive for movements to be precise and flawless through repetitive training. 10.0 is a perfect score- the highest score possible in any competition.

Deana Sherameta of Bloomingburg performed two perfect 10.0 routines on floor exercise and balance beam and Nicole Bellettiere of Slate Hill also received a 10.0 on her balance beam at the Level 5 State Championships. The USAG league’s Level 4 and Level 7 teams took home State Championship titles.
